We got tired of losing the punch card before the free coffee
Paper punch cards work — until they don't. They get left at home, run through the wash, or thrown out with a receipt. The business loses the visit history, and the customer loses the reward they'd almost earned. Neither side really wanted that outcome; it's just what paper does. (See a fuller comparison of digital vs. paper punch cards.)
PunchCardQR started from a simple question: what if the "card" never left the customer's pocket, because it was already on the phone they carry everywhere? A QR code solves the physical part — nothing to print, laminate or reorder — and a simple web page solves the rest, with no app install and no password to reset.
What we optimized for
We built this for the person actually standing behind the counter, not for a marketing team evaluating enterprise software. That meant a few deliberate choices:
- Scanning has to be fast. A punch should take less time than reaching for a stamp — using a phone or tablet camera you already own, not new hardware.
- Customers shouldn't have to do anything new. No app store, no account creation friction — just a QR scan and a normal web page.
- Owners shouldn't need a manual. Industry templates set sensible defaults so a new program is usable in minutes, with every setting still editable later.
- Growth shouldn't mean switching tools. The same platform that runs one counter also runs five locations, with promotions and automated marketing when you're ready for them.
Where we're headed
We keep shipping in the direction our users push us: more ways to reach customers automatically (birthday rewards, win-back emails), better reporting for owners who need the numbers for their own books, and multi-location support for businesses that started with one counter and grew into several. If there's something your business needs that isn't here yet, we want to hear about it.
